Design Advocacy

A third element of our work focuses on influencing and inspiring the people making decisions about our built environment, so that they choose good design.  We work directly with planners, designers, clients and architects, offering them guidance on projects that will shape all of our lives.

When advocating good design we pay just as much attention to the way buildings work as the way that they look. Decision makers play a pivotal role.  We need them to have the skills and confidence to assess proposals.  We believe they should actively support good design as it moves from the drawing board to the building site.  We try to inspire them to take a visionary, open-minded approach.

SCA+D offers its experience and enthusiasm directly to design panels and advisory groups intended to improve the design of the built environment.  We take a lead in developing 'Design Champions' in the sub-region by offering support, training and information.  With a better understanding of the principles of good design they have the power to deliver great places to live.

Design Training and Study Tours Programme

An ongoing programme which is able to respond to the subject areas delegates feel most important, and, perhaps most importantly,  takes account of the need for CPD whilst being aware of the pressures of commercial requirements.

places from spaces

Attractive, safe and accessible public spaces are a vital element of any city; Places from Spaces uses temporary transformations to explore future possibilities and to demonstrate how good design can turn a space into a place.
