Take One Building
‘Take One Building’ is an interactive online resource that will help teachers and students interrogate buildings fully through photos, videos, maps, plans, elevations, architects drawings, engineering drawings, archive material and oral commentary. Schools will have online access to a rich resource of materials providing a range of teaching and learning opportunities and signposting a variety of curriculum in-roads. Take One Building will be similar to the National Gallery's hugely successful Take One Picture programme and we are collabotaing with them as we develop our programme.
The online resource is created in such a way that schools can carry out a virtual investigation of the building without the need to leave the classroom. All the buildings featured, however, will also be accompanied by comprehensive sets of teachers notes for running an actual study visit to the building – including risk assessments, parking, location maps, disabled access etc.
The first phase of Take One Building includes 5 buildings in the South East which has been piloted with schools, as well as running a series of study visits to the buildings. Longer term the aspiration is to extend the programme across the UK – inviting other organisations to add their buildings of interest and develop educational programmes for schools. The aim being that any school will be only a short distance from an exemplar Take One Building.
