Shaping Places is a wide-ranging built environment education programme involving pupils, teachers, artists, built environmental professionals and decision-makers, which will take place in the south east region during 2004-07, engaging young people in the process of environmental change and design.
The programme aims to:
- Raise awareness and increase the interest and ability of young people, the citizens of the future, to participate in the process of shaping our environment to create better places in which to live, work and play.
- Create a forum through which teachers, creative and built environment practitioners can work together, sharing their knowledge and skills, to improve our surroundings.
- Support the development of education programmes in two new architecture centres, in Milton Keynes and the Solent.
- Work with a wide range of organisations across the south-east region who have an interest in the built environment, strengthening the links between them to encourage networking and mutual support.
The Solent Centre has worked with Bitterne Park Secondary and Bitterne Manor Primary schools along with Ryde High and Mayfield Middle schools.
