New Vegetable Beds
Working with Chineham Park Primary we have helped to fund the School for materials to construct new vegetable beds. The vegetable patch was planted by year 3, 4 and 5 children. A local sawmill prepared the oak beams and a local landscaping company built the raised bed on an existing chalk site. The highways development team bought in a couple of dumper truck loads of top soil from the major building work going alongside the school perimeter fence and A33. Children from Year 2 are looking after the raised beds as well as the children who attend the afterschool club and the Wednesday junior youth club.
What the children think...
"Will we really be able to eat this miss" (John, Yr5)
"Do you like our scarecrow?" (Yr R)
"I think he is working he comes alive at night time y' kno" (Katie)
"Where do the beans grow? will there be loads.......enough for everyone!" (Kane)
Architecture students from Oxford Brookes University have been working on designs for a children's centre, and also conducting a number physical and fun architectural interventions at the school. The students conducted their final presentations in front of small groups of pupils, as well as Hampshire County Council architect Colin Jackson. This formed part of their final crit for the project. The Chineham Park pupils had a huge insight to how architects go about designing a new building, from scaled down models, work sheets and digital models. Chineham Park will soon be getting a new Children's Centre designed by Hampshire Architects.
