Hidden Histories
Hidden Histories: Telling the Story of New Forest Towns and Villages through their Built Environment
Towns and villages across the New Forest share a wealth of fascinating and sometimes undiscovered history within their buildings. From the grand Georgian facades of Lymington High Street, to the hidden salt cottages on Keyhaven marshes and the burial site of Alice Liddell in St Michael and All Angels Churchyard, Lyndhurst.
SCA+D, based in Lyndhurst, is running a project in conjunction with the New Forest National Park Association, to unearth this ‘hidden history’ and wishes to involve members of the community in contributing with stories, photos and other memorabilia that will form part of the project.
The 3 towns and villages of interest for the initial programme are Lymington, Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst.
The form of interpretation has not yet been finalised – it could be through information panels, a map, treasure trail, walking routes or marker posts.
We are currently inviting historical and local community organisations with an interest in local history to take part - if your organisation would be interested please click on the form below and return it to us at the address shown.
At this point we would only be looking for expressions of interest and capturing a picture of what information may be available.
By becoming involved your members would add a depth of knowledge and detail not only for visitors to the area, but also to the knowledge of the local community about its own heritage.
We look forward to hearing from you.
