Building Schools for the Future Study Tour


Working with Year 9 pupils from The Trafalgar School at Downton in Wiltshire, we organised and delivered a series of workshops and tours exploring two exemplary education buildings in Winchester; The Lanterns Children’s Centre and the Osborne School, both designed by Hampshire County Council Architects.



The focus of the exercise was to encourage an understanding of the design/construction process in preparation for the introduction of a new Children’s Centre on the existing school site. The tours presented the opportunity for the students to question the architects of the two buildings as well as to meet and interview the various user groups. The following feedback workshop encouraged the students to form their own opinions about what they had experienced and to compose a ‘wish list’ of ideas that they hoped would feature in their own centre.
