This multi media film-making project started in March 2006, drawing upon the built environment as a resource, stimulus and teaching tool. With support from Creative Partnerships, Southampton and Isle of Wight, it has explored how teachers and students in collaboration with artists from the UK and China could use the built environment in the delivery of their curriculum subjects.

The project has worked across a range of curriculum areas including Art, Geography, ICT and Design Technology at Sholing Technology College in Southampton and No.58 School in the city of Qingdao, China. Itchen College has also supported the project by providing us with the use of their media editing suite and filming equipment.

The use of multi-media artists based in the UK and in China has allowed for an exciting and interesting exchange of work and ideas. Both students and teachers have been involved in this dialogue between the countries, which will continue to develop through email, letter, webcasting and video conferencing. The work of the artists has been enhanced by the opportunity for the artists involved to spend a 2-week residency in their opposite country surrounded by the home environments of their students.

The activities mainly focussed around the use of various forms of digital media to create a series of short films interwoven together to give a tapestry of the two cultures, countries, cities and schools. The World Premiere screening was held at The Harbour Lights Picture House in Southampton on Wednesday 4th October 2006.
