An exploration of the idea of 'home' by Christine Finn
The story Christine unfolds for Architecture Week is of a semi-detached Edwardian house in Deal, Kent. It was her family home for 35 years, although she left it in the late 1970's.
Christine's parents both died a couple of years ago. She had to decide - leave home or stay? Eventually she chose to stay on and revive the house as an artwork, while she continued to live in it.
Flying ducks wallpaper in the bathroom... living room floor excavated down to bare earth... broadband connection next to Edwardian moulding... Leave-Home-Stay revels in changes over time, the anomalies and anachronisms.
The house sparks fascination and nostalgia - not least because Christine's own emotional journey, as she gets to know her parents' lives better, is explicit.
'I now see it as both home and sculptural art piece' says Christine.
Visit the house between June 15 - 24 from 10:30 - 16:30
Other times may be available by arrangement.
